Ecobase partners with Henrik Söderberg Förvaltning AB to expand its forest carbon program in Sweden, combining local forestry expertise with Ecobase’s carbon project model.
At Ecobase, we believe the future of forestry lies in combining deep local knowledge with cutting-edge carbon project expertise. That’s why we’ve launched our mandate partner model, a way to extend our reach through close collaboration with trusted local experts who share our vision for climate-smart, profitable forestry.
With great pleasure we introduce Henrik Söderberg Förvaltning AB, as our mandate partner in Sweden.
Successful forestry is built on local relationships and trust. That’s why our mandate partner model connects trusted local professionals, like Henrik, with Ecobase's deep carbon market knowledge and robust data analysis. This approach makes it possible for forest owners of all sizes to benefit from carbon revenue, not just the largest estates.
The partner acts as the forest owner's primary point of contact, handling the relationship directly and guiding them through the process of joining our projects on their behalf. This structure gives landowners the best of both worlds: tailored advice from a local expert they trust, combined with our proven business model and direct access to the carbon market.
It’s a partnership designed to make carbon revenue a simple, transparent, and valuable part of any forestry operation.
To make our model work, we need to partner with the right people. That's how we ended up working with Henrik Söderberg, the founder and man behind Henrik Söderberg Förvaltning AB.
Henrik understands forestry from every angle. His career began on the ground as a manual logger and forest machine operator, giving him a fundamental respect for the daily work involved. He built on that foundation with a degree as a Forest Engineer and practical experience developing management plans for industry leaders like Södra and Holmen Skog. Since founding his own company in 2010, he has been committed to providing landowners with comprehensive services, expert advice and hands-on support while also exploring innovations in the field.
It was this combination of expertise and an innovative spirit that brought us together. Our conversation started around discussing the high potential of poplar plantations in Sweden, a subject where Henrik was already a pioneer. Henrik's proactive mindset and our shared ambition to push the boundaries of forest carbon made it obvious we had strong mutual ground to work together.
This collaboration has quickly proved to be a natural fit. Thanks to the trust landowners place in Henrik as a local advisor, many have already come together to create a growing carbon portfolio under his management.
At Ecobase, we bring a pan-European perspective and strong forestry data expertise. But it’s our partners like Henrik Söderberg who make it truly work on the ground. Nobody understands Swedish forest owners better than the trusted advisors they work with daily—and that's exactly who Henrik is. We're proud to work alongside him.
Johan Ekstrand
Ecobase Country Manager Sweden
We wanted to give Henrik a chance to share his own perspective on the future of forestry.
1. Carbon credits are still a new concept for many. How do you see their role in Swedish forestry?
I believe the future for forest owners involves diversifying their income. For generations, value has come from traditional sources like timber and pulpwood, and that remains essential. But we are now seeing alternative revenue streams emerge, and carbon credits will be a very important part of that mix. They provide a way to be rewarded for the climate benefits of good forest management. Exactly how significant this will be, the market will decide, but I believe it has potential to become a key part of a modern, resilient forestry business in Sweden.
2. In your work with the landowners, what have you found to be the biggest challenge when discussing carbon credits?
The challenges usually come down to two very practical questions. The first one landowners ask is if they are simply being paid to 'manage the forest as usual.' My main role is to clarify that the income isn't passive; it's a direct result of their management choices and the performance of their forest. They are the ones in control of the outcome and the amount of carbon removed.
The second challenge is about market maturity. Understandably, landowners want to see evidence of completed sales to feel confident that the market is stable. Building that trust and demonstrating that the system works is a key part of our job as partners."
3. What made you decide to work with Ecobase? What makes this partnership valuable to you?
For me, the decision came down to landowner freedom. Forestry is a long-term business; you can't be locked into a rigid plan for decades when markets, or nature itself, can change overnight. What appealed to me about the Ecobase model is that it isn't restrictive.
It acts as a financial incentive that rewards carbon-friendly management without taking away the owner's control. The landowner always has the final say in their operations. For a Swedish forest owner, that flexibility is essential, and it's what makes this a practical and valuable tool.
If you own professionally managed forest land in the Norra Götaland or Svealand regions and are curious about carbon revenue, Henrik is your local contact. Whether you manage a few dozen hectares or several thousand, there’s a way to turn your forest's climate benefits into real value.
We develop high-quality forestry projects that allow landowners to access carbon finance and help corporations to achieve their sustainability goals.
